About this hockey teams directory

Find any hockey team in the world

RinkStop tracks more than 30 active hockey teams across professional, junior, college, amateur, and youth leagues on six continents. Use the search and league filters above to find a specific team, or browse the full directory by league, country, or city.

Professional hockey leagues in the directory

The directory covers the NHL and its 32 franchises, the AHL (American Hockey League), the ECHL, the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League in Russia and Belarus), the SHL (Swedish Hockey League), the Liiga (Finland), the DEL (Germany), the NLA (Switzerland), and the Czech Extraliga. We also track the CHL (Canadian Hockey League) including the OHL, WHL, and QMJHL, plus NCAA Division I and Division III men's and women's programs in the United States and Canada.

Junior, youth, and amateur hockey

Beyond the pro ranks, the directory includes USA Hockey and Hockey Canada registered youth programs, high school teams, college club programs, beer leagues, and women's leagues at every level. If a team plays organized hockey on a regular schedule, it belongs here.

How to use the directory

Click any team to see its full roster, arena, schedule, and league context. Verified rosters are marked with a check badge. Teams can be filtered by league tier using the pill bar at the top of the list.

How many hockey teams are there in the world?

RinkStop tracks 2,601+ active hockey teams across 240+ leagues and 57 countries — from the NHL's 32 franchises and 24 IIHF national programs to ~600 European pro and junior clubs, ~150 NCAA programs, and tens of thousands of amateur and youth teams. The exact count moves weekly as new leagues are added and dormant teams are archived; the figure above is updated weekly.

How to start a hockey team

Starting a hockey team — whether a youth program, adult rec league, or competitive travel squad — follows a predictable six-step path:

  1. Recruit players. 12-18 skaters plus a goalie for a full roster. Schools, churches, and rec centers are good starting points.
  2. Find ice time. Most rinks sell practice ice in 50-minute blocks during off-peak hours at lower rates than prime-time game slots. See our rink directory for nearby facilities.
  3. Register with your national federation. USA Hockey, Hockey Canada, and other national bodies require annual registration for insurance and league eligibility. Use our hockey cost calculator to estimate dues.
  4. Get insurance. Most rinks require proof of general liability before you can book ice. Federation registration typically includes basic coverage.
  5. Set up dues. Typical adult rec teams collect $300-$800 per player per season to cover ice, jerseys, and refs. See our tryout guide for budgeting templates.
  6. Schedule games. Join a local league or schedule scrimmages against nearby teams. Most adult leagues handle scheduling centrally once your team registers.
